Tax credit on Donations

Do you make donations to charities and also pay tax?

If so, you may be able to claim back one third of those donations as a tax credit from Inland Revenue, the New Zealand government tax department.

Individuals (but not a trust, partnership or company) can claim 33.33 cents for every dollar donated, up to the same amount as your taxable income. You can claim for every donation of $5 or more, with a receipt, to approved organisations.

For details about this tax credit and how to get it, including the details that must be on the receipt, and a list of approved organisations, go to the Inland Revenue webpage. https://www.ird.govt.nz/topics/income-tax/tax-credits/tax-credits-for-donations
